While we were in Freiburg this past June, we also got to stomp around other parts of southwestern Germany with Emily, Tyler, Vinay (and Vinay's girlfriend / Emily's sister -- Nicki). On our last day together, we hopped on a train heading directly west of Frieburg toward Breisach am Rhein -- a tiny town perched on the edge of the Rhein river and, thus, bordering France.
Tyler clambered up an incredibly steep and muddy hill in the middle of a vineyard, and he convinced us all to slip and slide up to him. Chris went down to knees in the mud, but the view from the top was frakin' fantastic!
Breisach is just oozing charm with winding cobblestone streets and a cathedral on a hill and cute little shops and yummy restaurants. At the end of the day, we found our way to the bridge across the Reine so that we could step our toes into France :-)
