The main reason that we traveled down to Munich in May was to meet up with Shawn and Nicki Evans. When we found out that they were coming over from Raleigh to visit Nicki's family (she's originally from Germany / England), we immediately booked tickets and a hotel to see them! Chris and Shawn have known each other since they were itty-bitty sixth graders! and Rachel also randomly knew Shawn since she was a freshman in college (when he looked up her skirt as her teacher! oh, the scandal!!).
So, Shawn is like a brother to us -- and Nicki is the great new sister! :-)
Shawn and Nicki were some of the first people to take advantage of our "come to anyplace in Europe, and we'll meet you there" scheme! Good thing they picked a great location like southern Germany ;-D

The four of us spent a day around Munich's city center (with Shawn as our über-prepared guide!) and in the peaceful English Gardens. Beautiful day with wonderful friends!

If you visit Munich, there are very few activities for which you need to pay, so you can really just wander around and enjoy the architecture and gardens.
And, of course, chow down on as much Bavarian food and beer as you can! Chris' obsession was 'spanferkel' (suckling pig) which has an incredible crackling edge to the chop. Our favorite beer was the Augustiner-Bräu Weissbier -- even the traditional half-liter isn't enough of this fantastic brew! A great aspect of being a beer-phile in Munich is that each restaurant has the brewery from which they serve in their restaurant name, so you always know where to go for the good stuff -- though pretty much every dang beer in Munich is 'sehr gut' (very good) :-)
